Patrol Division

Jamie Johnson

The Patrol Division consists of 4 patrol shifts (A, B, C, and D), which work 12-hour schedules, and 2 specialized units: the School Resource Officer Unit and the Traffic Enforcement Unit.  Patrol officers are responsible for responding to calls for service, conducting preliminary investigations, conducting traffic enforcement, and investigating suspicious activity.  Each shift is supervised by a Lieutenant and a Sergeant, and each shift is staffed with 10 police officer positions.  

Captain Jamie Johnson joined the police department in March 2000 as a patrol officer.  He has served as a supervisor since 2008 and was promoted to the rank of captain in June 2018.  Prior to his role as Patrol Division Commander, Captain Johnson served as the Support Services Division Commander, as well as the Patrol Division's operations supervisor and division commander for several years.  He is a 1999 graduate of East Tennessee State University and earned a master’s degree from Columbus State University in 2012.  Captain Johnson has received specialized management training from the Police Executives’ Research Forum, FBI LEEDS (Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar), and the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.  Captain Johnson is an active member of the Dalton Civitan Club.
