Records Section

The mission of the Records Section of the Dalton Police Department is to provide administrative support for all members of the department in order to best accomplish the department’s mission of providing professional quality police services through positive interaction with its citizens.

The Records Section processes police records, external requests for records, and internal technology requests in a timely manner. Examples of records that are processed are Incident reports, Accident reports, Alcohol permits, Sound permits, and Criminal History reports.


REPORTS

Incident reports and Accident reports can be obtained by visiting the Records Section located on the first floor of the Dalton Police Department.  The address for the Dalton Police Department is 301 Jones Street, Dalton, GA, 30720, and the Records Section operating hours are Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. through 5 p.m., excluding holidays.

Incident reports can be obtained in person or by completing the following online form:  Request a Copy of a Police Report.  Unless mitigating circumstances exist, reports are typically available within 3-5 business days.

Customers should be prepared to provide staff with the case number that the Officer provided at the time of the report.


CRIMINAL HISTORIES

The Records Section accepts requests for Georgia Criminal History Reports for personal or employment purposes.  All requests for Criminal History information must be made in person.  You must present a valid government-issued photo ID and complete and sign a consent form.

There are two forms of Criminal History Reports:

Local – The information provided is obtained from the Dalton Police Department’s Records Management System and includes only local (within the City of Dalton) arrests and citations.  (Any citations that were issued between March 5, 1997 and July 1, 2009 do not appear in Dalton Police Department Records and must be acquired from Dalton Municipal Court).

State – The information provided is obtained from the GCIC/NCIC system (State and National Database) and will include any arrests within Georgia.


PRICES

Incident Reports – no charge (unless three or more reports are requested). If three or more reports are requested, an Open Records Request must then be submitted.

Accident Reports – no charge but must be picked up in person at the Dalton Police Department.

Criminal History – Local check is $15.00 and State check is $15.00.  If both State and Local check requested, the charge is $30.00. 

Payments accepted are cash, money order, or debit/credit cards.
