Requirements for Applicants
Requirements for Police Officer Applicants
- 
Must be 21 years of age by the completion of the Police Academy (applicants can begin the process before their 21st birthday)
 - 
Must be a citizen of the United States or a repatriated or naturalized citizen of the United States
 - 
Must have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent
 - 
Must be able to obtain and maintain Georgia P.O.S.T. certification
 - 
Must have a valid driver's license
 - 
Must have never been convicted by any state or by the federal government of any crime in which punishment could have been imprisonment in a federal or state prison
 - 
Must have never been convicted of sufficient misdemeanors to establish a pattern of disregard for the law
 - 
Must read and write at a level equal to the applicant's education
 - 
Must possess good moral character
 
Requirements for Non-Sworn Applicants
- 
Must be 18 years of age by the time of application
 - 
Must be a citizen of the United States or a repatriated or naturalized citizen of the United States
 - 
Must have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent and possess knowledge of modern office practices
 - 
Must be able to complete basic math calculations, demonstrate a level of proficiency with English grammar, and conduct data proofing
 - 
Must possess good communication skills, a professional work ethic, and be able to work as a team player
 - 
Must have never been convicted by any state or by the federal government of any crime in which punishment could have been imprisonment in a federal or state prison
 - 
Must have never been convicted of sufficient misdemeanors to establish a pattern of disregard for the law
 - 
Must read and write at a level equal to the applicant's education
 - 
Must possess good moral character
