Requirements for Police Officer Applicants

  • Must be 21 years of age by the completion of the Police Academy (applicants can begin the process before their 21st birthday)

  • Must be a citizen of the United States or a repatriated or naturalized citizen of the United States

  • Must have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Georgia P.O.S.T. certification

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Must have never been convicted by any state or by the federal government of any crime in which punishment could have been imprisonment in a federal or state prison

  • Must have never been convicted of sufficient misdemeanors to establish a pattern of disregard for the law

  • Must read and write at a level equal to the applicant's education

  • Must possess good moral character

 

Requirements for Non-Sworn Applicants

  • Must be 18 years of age by the time of application

  • Must be a citizen of the United States or a repatriated or naturalized citizen of the United States

  • Must have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent and possess knowledge of modern office practices

  • Must be able to complete basic math calculations, demonstrate a level of proficiency with English grammar, and conduct data proofing

  • Must possess good communication skills, a professional work ethic, and be able to work as a team player

  • Must have never been convicted by any state or by the federal government of any crime in which punishment could have been imprisonment in a federal or state prison

  • Must have never been convicted of sufficient misdemeanors to establish a pattern of disregard for the law

  • Must read and write at a level equal to the applicant's education

  • Must possess good moral character
