Public Works' Sanitation Division works hard to ensure every City residence is provided with once per week curbside garbage collection, once per week curbside recycling collection, and twice monthly curbside bulky item & yard trimming collection.

Public Works is also responsible for the City's transportation systems which includes maintenance and resurfacing of streets, right of ways and sidewalks , and maintaining traffic control devices including traffic signals, signage, and pavement markings.

To keep the City beautiful, the Landscaping Division maintains the grounds for municipal parks and buildings as well as the trees and plantings located within the right of way and in historic Downtown Dalton.

The West Hill Cemetery and Chapel are also special responsibilities of the Public Works Department.

Since 2015, the Public Works Department has been charged with ongoing maintenance and operational responsibilities of the City’s stormwater infrastructure. For issues related to stormwater located within the publicly owned right-of-way, please contact the Public Works Department.

Also since 2015, the Whitfield County Engineering Department has been the review/issuing authority for all stormwater and land disturbance permits related to local development projects within the City limits. Please visit the Whitfield County Stormwater website for additional information:
