Criminal Investigations Division

The Criminal Investigations Division is responsible for conducting follow-up investigations, major-crime investigations, and specialized investigations, such as those involving narcotics and gangs.  CID is also responsible for crime/intelligence analysis, crime scene analysis/processing, and polygraph investigations.  Two Investigators are currently assigned to the FBI Conasauga Safe Streets Task Force.

Captain Ricky Long joined the police department in March of 2000 as a patrol officer.  He has held several positions within the department, including school resource officer, investigator, and traffic unit officer.  Captain Long has served as a supervisor since 2012 and was promoted to the rank of Captain in September 2022.  Prior to his role as Criminal Investigations Division Commander, Captain Long served as operations supervisor in CID and the Support Services Division.  Captain Long holds an associate’s degree from Dalton State College, a bachelor’s degree from Belhaven University, and a master’s degree from Columbus State University.
