Catalog of Memorial Trees In Dalton

This Catalog of Memorial Trees is the Eagle Scout Project of Connor Donahue, Troop 111. Mr. Donahue is a 2025 graduate of Dalton High School.

This Eagle Project is a service to the Dalton Tree Board, completed in 2025. The work on the project started with taking the Tree Board's paper records of memorial trees and converting them into an electronic file.  This was a Google sheet and it contained information for about 150 trees.  Then, Mr. Donahue visited parks and public spaces to try to locate each memorial tree to verify that it still stands. Each tree that Mr. Donahue found was recorded in this file and a photograph of each tree was also taken.

Some of the trees that are found in this work were not dedicated by the City of Dalton. They are trees that have been planted and/or dedicated by other groups.

After 135 hours of work, including more than 100 hours from other volunteers, all of the data was collected.  More than 300 trees were cataloged. Fewer than 25 trees were recored in the original files but not able to be found. If you locate a tree that is not recorded here, please contact the Dalton Tree Board.

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE THIS FILE TO FIND A TREE

This website is meant to help Dalton residents and visitors locate a specific tree and access information about it.  

First, click here to open the Catalog of Memorial Trees.  Search this file for the name of the person you are looking for.  You can also search by the type of tree, the park location, or the year the tree was dedicated.

The pictures of the memorial trees and stone markers are organized below by the park or location where the tree is found. To find a picture, determine the name of the location or park where the memorial tree is located and then open the file for that park or location. Once you have the file open, you can find the Memorial Tree by searching for the person's name or scrolling through all the pictures.
