Parents Arrested After Investigation Of Summer Death Of Toddler
Monday, September 22nd, 2025
The Dalton Police Department arrested Kirsten Schmitt, 26, and Anthony Pedigo, 30, of 2822 Gregory Place Monday on charges of second-degree murder and cruelty to children in the 2nd degree. Their 22-month old son Grayson Pedigo died on June 5th, 2025 while left unattended and buckled into a car seat inside of their home.
Police were called to the apartment at 2822 Gregory Place at approximately 4:00 pm on June 5th after Schmitt and Pedigo called 911 and reported that they’d found the toddler unresponsive in his car seat. The child was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Schmitt and Pedigo told investigators that it was typical for them to seat belt their son into his car seat and leave him on the floor of the living room to watch TV while they were home. Schmitt told investigators that on June 5th, she was watching TV with Grayson while Pedigo was sleeping in the bedroom. Schmitt told investigators that she went into the bedroom to wake Pedigo up for his shift at work, leaving Grayson alone. Both Schmitt and Pedigo say that they were in the bedroom for approximately 30 to 40 minutes. When they came out, they told investigators that they found the boy unresponsive. The child’s injuries appear consistent with having the seat belt and buckle around his neck.
The investigation of this death has continued since June. On Friday, investigators and the district attorney’s office agreed to seek charges and police obtained warrants for the arrest of Schmitt and Pedigo. Those warrants were served Monday morning without incident.
