DPD Investigating Shoplifting Suspect
Friday, January 9th, 2026
The Dalton Police Department is asking for the public's help to identify a man who shoplifted more than $100 in steaks from a local store. The suspect swapped out the barcodes on the items, and then used a self-checkout station to pay for the items at a steep discount. The suspect was recorded by store surveillance.
The theft happened on Monday, January 5th at the Walmart on Shugart Road. Just before noon, the suspect entered the store and went into the grocery section. The man picked out five steaks, 3 ribeye steaks valued at $19.97 each and 2 thin ribeye steaks valued at $23.47 each, and then went to a different grocery aisle. There, he placed different bar codes on top of the packages. The actual barcodes for the steaks are located on the bottom of the packaging.

The suspect then went to the self-checkout, where he scanned the fraudulent bar codes placed on top of the steaks. Each scan showed up as a Duck brand faucet cover, valued at $2.78 for a total of $13.90 which the suspect paid with a gift card. The value of the five steaks was $106.85.
The suspect then left the store, getting into the passenger side of a dark colored Dodge Ram pickup truck which then left the scene. The truck had a military veterans license tag but the numbers were not able to be made out in surveillance footage. The suspect was described as an older white man who wore a blue long sleeved sweatshirt, blue jeans, and a camouflage hat.
