DPD Investigating Quick Change Swindler

Wednesday, December 28th, 2022

The Dalton Police Department is asking for the public's help to identify a man who used fast talk and confusion tactics to trick a cashier into giving him too much change, stealing approximately $150 during a transaction earlier this month. The incident was recorded by the store's surveillance system.

The incident happned on December 9th at the Walgreen's at 2225 East Walnut Avenue. At approximately 6:30 pm, two men entered the store together and one of the two men approached the counter and asked for change. During this transaction, the suspect kept changing the denominations of money that he was asking for and kept having the cashier start again while keeping the cashier talking and confused before eventually getting too much change and immediately leaving the store. The cashier estimated that the man left with $150 extra in cash.

The suspect is a black male with close cropped black hair and a thick beard. He wore a distinctive black hooded sweatshirt with white stars on the left sleeve and a design with a red "C" or "G" logo on the back and also the upper left chest. The second individual arrived with the suspect and they left together in a dark colored late model SUV. That individual wore a gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled up and drawn tight around his head. The sweatshirt had a distinctive floral design on the back. Pictures of the suspect and the other individual are included below along with an image of their vehicle.

Anyone who recognizes either of these individuals is asked to please call Detective Charles Williams at 706-278-9085, extension 9-280.
