Leaves Are Falling - But Don't Blow Them Into The Street
Monday, September 23rd, 2024
Fall is here, and along with the pumpkin spice-flavored treats and earlier sunsets we also get falling leaves. As you rake or blow your leaves to clean up your yard, please be sure that you aren't blowing them into the street. It's against City of Dalton ordinances to blow leaves, grass clippings, or any other yard debris into Dalton's streets. Not only does it create a road hazard, it can also clog storm drains and pose flooding risks.

Dalton's Public Works Department is ready to collect yard debris year-round, but your grass clippings, leaves, or other debris should be piled on your property next to the roadway for collection. Yard debris is collected every other week in Dalton, with the northern half of the City served one week and the southern half served the next. For reference, click here to read the City's yard trimming collection policy and click here to see the collection schedule for 2024.
Section 98-11 of the Dalton Code of Ordinances specifies that "no person shall place any tree limbs, yard trimmings, leaves, junk or other debris upon any street, alley, or public right-of-way within the city for any purpose, including but not limited to placing such matter for pickup by the Public Works Department." Additionally, section 94-208 (b) specifies that "it shall be unlawful for any person or persons to throw, dump, sweep, push, blow, deposit, or leave or to cause or to permit the throwing, dumping, sweeping, pushing, blowing, depositing, or leaving of litter in any public or private gutter, street, right-of-way, waterway, or stormwater collection system within the City."
