Heavy Equipment Operator (Street Maintenance Division) - Public Works Department
The City of Dalton Public Works Department is currently accepting applications for a Heavy Equipment Operator. This is a full-time position in the Public Works Department Street Maintenance Division, with a starting pay rate to be determined based on experience. Major duties include operating a backhoe, skid-steer, grad-all, asphalt spreader/roller, clamshell tractor, and driving a single/tandem axle dump truck. Additional duties include the use of hand tools, such as a mechanical tamp, concrete saw, and chainsaw; assisting with the installation of concrete forms for curbing and sidewalks, concrete finishing, excavating footers, placing blocks and backfill, and any other duties as assigned, including lifting up to 50 pounds frequently. Applicants must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License issued by the State of Georgia. However, a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s license is desired for most positions and must be obtained within six months of employment. The City of Dalton Public Works Department will provide the required Class “B” Commercial Driver’s license training and reimburse the cost of the driver’s test once passed.
