Three Candidates Qualify For City Council Special Election

Three candidates qualified this week to run for the City Council in the March 10th special municipal election. The Ward 2 City Council seat was left vacant by the January 6th resignation of former Councilmember Nicky Lama who stepped down to run for Congress.
In alphabetical order, Rojelio Alvarron, Julie Locke, and Zeucis L. Martinez have all qualified for the election and will appear on the ballot. The winner of the election will serve out the unexpired portion of Lama's term which began January 1st and will run through the end of 2029.
The election will be held March 10th (7:00 am - 7:00 pm) and will coincide with the special Congressional election to replace former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. There will be an early voting period at the Whitfield County Courthouse from February 16th through March 6th (Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm). Saturday voting is scheduled on Feb. 21st and Feb 28th from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. And there will be extended voting on March 5th (8:00 am - 7:00 pm).
