Work Zone Will Detour S. Hamilton Street Traffic

Monday, June 2nd, 2025

Utility work associated with construction of the new workforce housing development on south Hamilton Street will force the closing of a segment of the road between Bryant Avenue and Nichols Street. The road will be closed on Tuesday, June 3rd and is expected to remain closed until Thursday, June 5th.

Traffic along S. Hamilton Street will be diverted at Bryant Avenue and Nichols Street to bypass the work zone on Cherokee Street. Detour signs will be posted on S. Hamilton Street to direct drivers around the road closure. Motorists should plan alternate routes to avoid delays.

The development on south Hamilton Street will be a 40-unit urban infill neighborhood comprised by owner-occupied housing designed to be affordable for the Dalton workforce. The project is made possible by a $1.5 million grant from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) as part of the Rural Workforce Housing Initiative, which funds the road and utilities of this project that aims to bring new life to an underutilized property in Dalton’s urban core. The grant and finished project will deliver owner-occupied, single[1]family detached homes ranging from one to three bedrooms, complete with HOA standards to ensure ongoing maintenance and beautification along the corridor.

The project broke ground with a ceremony on May 15th. Construction is expected to begin in earnest over the summer, with homes expected to hit the market in 2026 and 2027.
