The City of Dalton is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Heavy Equipment Mechanic Trainee for the Dalton-Whitfield Solid Waste Authority. This position is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on a variety of DWSWA heavy equipment and diesel trucks. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: fueling, greasing, diagnosing and correcting mechanical problems, operating service trucks and its related on-board equipment, welding and fabricating, maintaining a clean and safe work area, and performing additional tasks as assigned. Mechanic must work safely, efficiently and communicate effectively with other staff members and supervisor. 

Candidate must be able to operate a variety of heavy equipment and trucks used by the DWSWA, have a high school diploma or equivalent with one year of verifiable diesel truck and heavy equipment experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.   Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain Georgia Commercial Driver's License or have a valid CDL.  Candidate must pass DOT drug test and background check.

Typical work week is 40-48 hours, Monday thru Friday 7:00 am until 3:30 pm.  The starting pay is $17.16 per hour. Excellent benefits and stable work environment.  Candidate must be at least 21 years old, pass a drug test and background check.
