Meet-and-Greet Reception For Mayor Sams Monday

Thursday, January 4th, 2024

Mayor-Elect Annalee Sams will be sworn into office at the Monday, January 8th meeting of the Mayor and Council and the public will have a chance to meet her beforehand at a reception in her honor. A meet-and-greet reception for Dalton's new mayor will be held at 5:00 pm on Monday in the City Hall lobby. Light refreshments will be served and the Mayor and Council meeting will follow immediately at 6:00 pm. City Councilmembers Tyree Goodlett and Dennis Mock will also be honored at the reception before being re-sworn at Monday's meeting. Both earned re-election last November.

Mayor-Elect Sams previously served six years as a member of the City Council before stepping down last year in order to run for mayor. State law requires elected officials to resign before running for another elected position that would overlap with the term of their currently held office.

"I was on a great team and I'm glad to be back on a great team," Sams said after the November election. "From City staff to the elected officials, I've been a part of a great group of people for six years and I'm glad to get to rejoin them."

The Dalton Mayor and Council typically meet on the first and third Monday of each month, but their first meeting of 2024 was re-scheduled to the 8th due to the observance of the New Year's Day holiday. The council's second meeting of January will be held on Tuesday, January 16th due to City offices being closed January 15th in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
