Wednesday, March 11th, 2026

The City of Dalton has a new City Councilmember. Dalton native Julie Locke won a special municipal election Tuesday night to fill the vacant Ward 2 Dalton City Council seat. The post was left vacant in January by the resignation of Councilmember Nicky Lama who left to run for Congress.

Final election results have not yet been made official, but Locke was the clear winner of Tuesday night's special election, capturing more than 1,800 of the 3,431 votes cast in the election according to unofficial results published Tuesday night. She defeated fellow candidates Rojelio "Roy" Alvarran and Zeucis "Z" Martinez.

"I am very excited," Locke said on Wednesday. "I have been involved in the community for a really long time, and this is a natural progression for me. I'm very excited about continuing to serve the City of Dalton through the City Council. I would love to take the opportunity to thank my supporters and everyone who helped me all across our community. I feel like everybody came together as a community to back me, and I'm so appreciative."

Tentative plans call for Locke to be sworn in at the next Mayor and Council meeting on Monday, March 16th at 6:00 pm in the Raymond A. Elrod Council Chambers at City Hall. Locke will fulfill the unexpired portion of Lama's term which ends December 31st, 2029.
