Friday, September 5th, 2025
September is National Recovery Month, a time to celebrate the hope for recovery from drug addiction. This month, the Georgia Council for Recovery is shining a spotlight on the efforts to help those suffering from drug addiction and their families with a bus tour with 75 stops scheduled across Georgia. The tour will come to Dalton on Monday, September 8th. The visit to City Hall at 12:00 pm will include a panel discussion with local stakeholders to explore how addiction impacts the community.

The Georgia Recovers Bus Tour is an official State of Georgia National Recovery Month Event funded by Commissioner Kevin Tanner at the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities and supported by the Georgia General Assembly Working Group on Addiction and Recovery. The Georgia Council for Recovery is the exclusive statewide partner with the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities for this historic tour.
Every stop is FREE and Open to the Public. The tour stops will highlight local peers in recovery, families impacted by addiction, and allies who support recovery.

“I am excited for the Georgia Recovers Bus Tour," said Commissioner Tanner. "My team remains committed to providing support for vulnerable Georgians impacted by the addiction epidemic. The statewide tour will combine serious policy conversations with fun activities that bring local communities together. It is important to reach everyone as we show Georgia that ‘Recovery is Real.’”
"The number one cause of death in America, including Georgia, for people 18 - 45 is overdose," said Jeff Breedlove, a policy advisor for the Georiga Council for Recovery. "The good news is that 'Recovery is Real'. There are over 900,000 people in communities across Georgia in recovery from addiction. The Georgia Recovers Bus Tour will bring the hope and joy of recovery to families across Georgia as it saves lives, restores families, and strengthens communities."
The Georgia Recovers Bus Tour also made a stop in Dalton in 2024. That visit included the presentation of a mayoral proclamation declaring September 2024 Recovery Month in Dalton and a chance for all in attendance to sign their names on the side of the Georgia Recovers Bus.
