2024 Chamber of Commerce SPLOST Summary

The following is a summary of the projects included on the 2024 SPLOST ballot initiative which will be on the May 21st primary ballot in Whitfield County. Voters will have the option to either continue the existing one percent Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax which has been in effect since 2020 or end it. 

This summary was prepared by the Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce.

  • Whitfield County would receive approximately $50.144 million.
    • Roads and Public Safety (86%)
      • 30.2 million for roads and bridges
      • $6.9 million for Fire vehicles and safety improvements
      • $3 million for county-wide emergency 911 radio replacement
      • $2.9 million for jail upgrades and Sheriff vehicles

  • Riverbend Road Bypass Connection – Access to park.

  • Whitfield County Fire Station 12
  • 2 Whitfield County Fire Engines. 3 Whitfield County F-250 Fire/Emergency Response Vehicles.
  • Funds to remodel various Whitfield County Fire Stations
  • Two soccer fields at Heritage Point Park
  • Renovation of John Davis Recreation Center
  • Roads and Bridges – Design for Houston Valley/Mt. Vernon Road Roundabout"

Election day for the local primaries is May 21st, 2024 and early voting starts on April 29th, 2024."
